We are working specifically on the following 4 themes to make our products and services more sustainable:
Contributing to the circular economy
At Vidra Metaalproducten we actively contribute to the transition to the circular economy through our products and services. In concrete terms, this means the following for us:
Design
From the design phase of our products, we use the R-ladder model. The R-ladder indicates the degree of circularity. The R-ladder has 7 steps that represent different strategies of circularity. Strategies higher up the ladder save more raw materials. In addition, we can design and produce fully modular products on request and in collaboration with customers.
Material use
Where possible we use recycled material. We can map out a complete material passport for all our products and deliver it to our customers.
Production
All production waste is separated at the base in our company. In each department there are waste bins for paper, plastic, wood, metal and residual waste. The bins are emptied in our indoor container storage. Full press containers with paper and plastic are exchanged and the contents are recycled. The metals undergo a second sorting, in which a distinction is made between coated and uncoated metals. The different metals, such as steel, stainless steel and aluminium, are offered separately for recycling.
‘End-of-life’ treatment
Our goal is to keep our products and materials as high in value as possible. We have the ability to process returned products from our customers. Depending on the condition of the ‘End-of-life’ products, we assess whether they can be reused, repaired, upcycled or disassembled. If this is not possible, the ‘end-of-life’ products are (partly) recycled.
We have also taken steps in the area of facilities to contribute to our objectives. The waste wood that may bear the clean hallmark is removed from production via the shredder to a silo. This waste wood is used to heat two moth incineration plants, three buildings (over 30,000m²) and two degreasing baths of the powder coating plants.
We also clean, cool and rinse with rainwater. During the construction of the logistics centre in 2001, a cellar with a capacity of 1,000 m3 was built. This is where the rainwater from the enormous roof (10,000 m2) is collected, meaning that the two aforementioned degreasing installations no longer need to run on tap water. This water is also used to flush the toilets in the main building.
Mitigating climate change
Our goal is to operate and offer products ‘net-zero’ by 2050. In addition to mapping our own CO2 footprint (scope 1 & 2) and actively trying to reduce it, we can also map the full CO2 footprint of all our products and deliver it to our customers. In this way, we work together with the entire chain to achieve the international goals of the Paris Agreement.
Vidra Metaalproducten BV believes in the local market and therefore prefers to work with local companies. Through these collaborations, Vidra Metaalproducten BV tries to strengthen the local economy and reduce the costs and environmental impact of transport.
A safe & healthy working environment for our employees
Entrepreneurship is people’s work. What we deliver to our customers is not the product of an individual, but the result of intensive cooperation between colleagues in different places within the organization. In doing so, we strive to create a safe and healthy working environment for all our employees.
No negative impact on biodiversity in the chain
Vidra Metaalproducten BV uses materials that could potentially have a negative impact on local biodiversity in the chain. We strive to reduce this negative impact as much as possible, for example by purchasing largely certified raw materials.
